Not long ago I wrote about mid century front doors. That got me thinking about screen doors. They don't make them very unique these days. But there are a few companies that I've discovered that make inserts for your screen doors. Here are some examples:

Crestview Doors - Mid Century Front Doors

Ok, so for a very long time I have been wishing I had a cool retro front door like this but they don't sell them at Lowe's or Home Depot. So, I guess I'm stuck with a boring front door, right? Wrong! You can buy them at Crestview Doors.

I know what you're thinking...this has to be expensive. Well, it is a little pricey for a finished door ($800-$1200) BUT for a lot less ($179-$319) you can get a Door Lite Kit and add windows to your existing door yourself!

Etsy Seller - tinymodernist

I recently discovered this seller on Etsy. They have the neatest things! I have never seen cooler cross stitch patterns! I haven't done cross stitch in years, mostly because there aren't any patterns that match the style of my decor...but these I might like to make! Here are some examples:

Etsy Find - Atomic Coffee Pot

Wow! I just love this mid century modern coffee pot that I found on Etsy!

I have never seen anything quite like it! What a cool shape and I love those wooden ball feet!

I can just picture this on the buffet in my dining room...filled with hot cider at Christmas! This is something definitely on my wish-list! Very cool!

Atomic Starburst Clock

I know all the purists out there will hate me but I totally redid this clock. In my opinion it was definitely not cool...but it was cheap ($4 at a flea market) and had potential.

Yuck, right? Well, I guess someone might like it...

I took the electric stuff out and replaced it with a battery operation (no more ugly cord). I cut off the flowers and then I spray painted the sprockets and hands silver, which were originally brass. I replaced the flowers with wooden balls. And this was the result:

Now I'm trying to decide if I want to leave the balls as they are (natural wood) or paint them to match the face, which is off white. Or maybe something like this:

...or multi-colored like this:

Retro House Numbers

For those of you who (like me) like kitschy stuff ....I found these awesome retro house numbers today! They come in black but you can paint them to match your house.

Retro Tiki Duvet Cover and Pillow Shams

Here are pictures of the finished duvet cover and pillow shams that I made with the vintage tiki curtain fabric. I'm happy with how they turned out, especially considering this is the first time I've attempted anything like this.


I used red fabric for the sides and to cover the buttons on the pillow shams. The red fabric came from curtains too.


I'm not the only one who is happy with how it turned out! This is Princess, my Cornish Rex. She made herself very comfortable. :)

Retro Predicta TVs

While I'm finishing the duvet cover and pillow shams (almost done!) I thought I'd share some really cool retro TVs with you. Maybe some day I will be able to afford one. Yes, these are new TVs. They sure are a nice alternative to the boring black boxes that all look alike today. They are made by Predicta. Here are a couple of my favorites:

Tiki Curtains

About a month ago I got these vintage mid-century tiki curtains at the Louisville Antique Mall. There were 6 panels, but I only needed 2 for the one window in my bedroom. So with the extra panels I am attempting to make a duvet cover and pillow shams. This is the first time I've worked with so much fabric...if it's not too embarrassing I will post the finished product! :)

Mid Century Modern Gingerbread House

Since yesterday was Christmas I'm posting a picture of my first attempt at a mid-century modern gingerbread house. Notice the pink flamingo. Last summer I bought a package of flamingo swizzle sticks at the dollar store and I just cut the top off and used that for the lawn ornament. :)

I wish I would have had more time and better tools to create it. (I only had a knife and my fingers...except for the wreath which was made with those gel icing tubes from the grocery store) Maybe in my next attempt I will have more professional tools available. This was made with a pattern I created. I'm thinking about possibly selling the pattern next Christmas if there is enough interest. I hope to come up with at least a couple more retro gingerbread house patterns between now and then.
